UFC 130: Quinton Jackson Vs. Matt Hamill

Matt Hamill enters the arena to “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking,” by the Rolling Stones. Jackson walks to the cage as usual, howling and looking like a man possessed to the strains of “One More Road to Cross” by DMX. Herb Dean will officiate the main event.

Round 1: Hamill goes for a leg kick early. Hamill goes for the takedown and Rampage shucks him off easily, looking to land counters afterward. Hamill whiffs on a couple of high kicks. Rampage almost decks Hamill with an uppercut. Jackson is looking to counter as Hamill moves in, putting some serious heat on his punches. Hamill lands a leg kick. The pace is tentative throughout this first round, with Hamill reaching too much on his punches and takedown attempts and Jackson taking his time countering. Jackson stuffs two takedowns in a row. Jackson backs Hamill up with a three-punch combination. Rampage defends another takedown and throws him off of another one. Jackson is pouring it on with twenty to go, backing Hamill up and bloodying him with punches.

Round 2: Hamill comes out swinging tight away, but Jackson lands cleaner on the counter. Jackson easily defends another takedown and presses Hamill into the fence. Hamill tries for the takedown and eats a knee to the gut for his trouble. Jackson lands a big uppercut from the clinch. Hamill drops for a low single that Jackson sees from a mile away. Rampage tags him up with punches and knees for his trouble. The pace is slowing again and the crowd starts to boo a bit. Jackson clips Hamill with a left hook. Hamill lands a leg kick as Jackson backs off with his offense. Jackson stuffs another takedown and makes Hamill pay with strikes. Again. Hamill tries for a head kick and Jackson fires back with a series of punches that have Hamill cowering. Hamill keeps trying for the takedowns but Jackson just isn’t having it.

Round 3: Jackson clips Hamill with a right hook after Hamill misses a Superman punch. Jackson lands a glancing right straight. Jackson avoids another takedown, but Hamill keeps hold of him and they fight for position on the cage. Jackson fights free. Hamill lands a one-two. Jackson with a good body shot. Hamill presses Jackson into the fence, but Rampage hammers knees into his midsection and fights him off. Jackson with a powerful punch combination. A good leg kick lands for JAckson, before he stuffs a takedown and lands a left hook. Jackson thinks about a takedown, but lets it go. Jackson is dominating Hamill, but not looking very aggressively for the finish. He pushes in with a big knee and presses Hamill into the fence. The crowd voices its displeasure with the fight’s slowed pace. Thirty seconds to go and Hamill has Jackson pressed into the fence. Jackson breaks, misses a flying elbow and lands a good knee. He pours it on until the bell, clearly showing fatigue.

Quinton Jackson defeated Matt Hamill via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Jackson gives Hamill props for being as tough as he is, and reveals to the unjustly booing crowd that he came in with a fractured hand to this fight.
