UFC 130: Frank Mir Vs. Roy Nelson

Nelson doesn’t switch things up, he walks out to “I’m Fat” by “Weird” Al Yankovicz. Josh Rosenthal will oversee this co-main event bout.

Round 1: They touch gloves to start things off. Nelson bulls Mir into the cage, but Mir reverses and looks for a takedown of his own against the fence. Nelson reverses. Mir lands a big knee on the break. He goes for another that barely misses. Mir lands a head kick, then gets clipped with a right hand before Nelson grabs hold of him again. Mir lands another nice knee from off of the cage, another. Mir going to work with knees, absolutely hammering Nelson. Nelson gets Mir against the fence though, where he lays on him for a bit before breaking and trying to land the right hand. Mir lands a head kick and another knee. He eats a right hand or two in the process, but lands several nice knees before they clinch again. Mir hits a beautiful trip and takes mount, briefly threatening to take Nelson’s back before “Big Country” gets back to his feet. scores the round 10-9 for Mir

Round 2: They touch gloves again to start the second. Nelson lands a hard straight right, before Mir returns with a good leg kick. Mir is landing with kicks to the legs and some nice punches, while Nelson looks primarily to land the right. Mir drops for a single and gets it with ease. Mir working elbows from half guard, keeping his hand over Nelson’s mouth. Nelson give up his back in order to get to his feet, where Mir presses him into the cage. Mir drops for the takedown again and gets it again, seemingly overwhelming Big Country with two and a half minutes to go. Nelson gets to his feet again, but Mir isn’t relenting his attack. Mir with another good leg kick and a follow up knee. Mir showing great diversity in his standup. Nelson grabs him again and they fight against the cage as the round winds to a close. Rosenthal breaks them with ten to go. scores the round 10-9 for Mir

Round 3: They touch gloves to seal the fight. Nelson, looking tired, misses with a slow right hand. Mir scores with a knee. Mir with a front kick. Mir lands a leg kick and then another nice knee before bulling Nelson into the fence. Mir drops for the double and gets it easily, where he works strikes from half guard. Mir is balling Nelson up against the fence, but Big Country finds his way back up to his feet. Mir lands another knee to the head before dropping back for and completing the takedown. Mir working ground-and-pound, but Nelson again gets to his feet. Mir drops for the takedown again and gets it easily with over a minute to go. Mir lands a huge elbow, then another. Mir is slamming Nelson’s face with elbows, which Nelson eats impressively. The fight ends with Mir looking for the takedown against the fence. scores the round 10-9 for Mir

Frank Mir defeated Roy Nelson via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

Mir is astounded by how many shots Nelson can take, but says that he’s happy with his performance.
