Perhaps the biggest fight in Strikeforce history has reportedly been finalized as Sherdog reports that the much-anticipated superfight between Fedor Emelianenko and Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson has been signed for July 30th in Chicago, IL on Showtime. The bout will be a non-title affair at a catchweight of 220lbs, but promoted as a heavyweight contest.
The bout has yet to be officially announced by the promotion, but is expected to shortly.
After losing his Strikeforce debut against then-champ Jake Shields, Henderson rebounded to earn knockout victories over both Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Rafael Cavalcante — the latter of which earned him the Strikeforce light heavyweight title.
Once considered to be the pound-for-pound best fighter in the sport, Emelianenko’s stock has fallen after two consecutive losses in Strikeforce, to Fabricio Werdum and Antonio Silva, respectively. After suffering those defeats, the call went up for Emelianenko to change things up in his famously forever the same training routine and he did just that: relocating to Holland for a time to improve his overall technique and conditioning.
Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson is expected to take place on July 30, 2011 from the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
