At-times controversial UFC middleweight Chris “The Crippler” Leben has never been one to shy away from a brawl and that won’t change, even if he’s about to face one of the most notorious and feared from-the-pocket-punchers in the sport.
Leben has a long-awaited date in the cage with MMA legend Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva and, even though The Crippler was knocked out in his last outing by Brian Stann, he’s looking forward to a gritty brawl against the former Pride FC champ.
During a recent interview with MMAWeekly, Leben was asked what his best weapon would be to defeat the hot-blooded Brazilian. He responded thusly:
“My left hand? Honestly, I kinda feel two ways about it. I’ve never had a guy stand and brawl with me that’s ever beat me, from standing and brawling — and I know Wanderlei likes to do that. I’ll stand toe-to-toe with him, I’m not gonna back up. I’m not afraid to stand and take one to give one, I’ll do that.”
The Axe Murderer will return to action against Leben after the 34-year-old has taken over a yearlong break from the sport to repair and rehab a knee injury.
Leben and Silva are set to meet at UFC 132: Cruz vs. Faber 2, which will be going down on July 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
