UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is currently sitting on the sidelines nursing a hand injury while the rest of the division vies for a shot at his belt.
While there are several bouts with divisional impact currently on the docket — Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis, Matt Hamill vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Forrest Griffin vs. Mauricio Rua, to name a few — Jones recently revealed to 1260 the Score in Syracuse (props to MMAMania.com for the find) who he is likely to face next.
“I had to postpone my first title defense against Rashad Evans due to some torn tissues in my thumb,” said Jones. “My last doctor’s appointment they told me I should be able to get back to full out training within the next month. I’m excited about that. I’m expected to compete against Lyoto Machida or Rampage Jackson in maybe October, mid-October.”
So it appears as though Jackson will be next to face Jones if he can get past Matt Hamill this Saturday at UFC 130. However, if Hamill ends up with his hand raised, then “Bones” will likely defend his title against Lyoto Machida this fall with Rashad Evans facing the winner of that fight, provided he can get past Phil Davis at UFC 133 in August.
UFC 130: Rampage vs. Hamill takes place this Saturday, May 28 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. As always, FightLine.com will provide live coverage of the event.
