Jon Fitch has made his feelings on the welterweight title picture abundantly clear: the next person who faces Georges St-Pierre for the belt should be him, because no one else can make as strong a claim to a title shot as he can.
Though Fitch lost a decision to St-Pierre back in 2008, he believes he has grown enough as a fighter in the three years since that he can take the dominant French-Canadian out. Other than a fight against “Rush,” Fitch is looking for a bout with former champ BJ Penn, whom he fought to a draw against this past February at UFC 127.
Fitch discussed those two bouts during a recent appearance on HDNet’s Inside MMA.
“There’s really no other fight for me,” said Fitch. “I have no interest in any other fight. It’s been a long road trying to get back to GSP. I think I’ve done more than enough to prove myself worthy, but I have unfinished business with B.J. also. Those are the only two fights for me. I want to get over this shoulder injury as soon as I can, and that’s really what I’m looking for.”
