After starting his UFC career with a two-fight winning streak, Roy “Big Country” Nelson hit a snag in his last outing in the form of current top contender Junior dos Santos. Dos Santos defeated Nelson convincingly over three rounds of fighting and derailed Nelson’s immediate hopes for a title shot.
However, a win in his next bout would do well to get him back on his way to the belt, as he will be facing former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir.
“I’m honored to fight a two-time UFC heavyweight champion,” says Nelson of the match up.
On how he plans to beat Mir, Nelson details a relatively simple (sounding, at least) gameplan: “You just gotta punch the guy, hit him in his face. It changes the game, changes the dynamic. If you hit the guy more than he hits you, you’re gonna win.”
The bottom line is simple according to “Big Country”: No matter how it comes about, he’s taking out Frank Mir.
“Am I gonna beat Frank Mir? The answer is yes.”
Nelson and Mir will meet at UFC 130: Rampage vs. Hamill on the 28 of this month at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
