The UFC officially announced today that Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will return to the cage for the first time in over 18 months when he faces up-and-coming heavyweight Brendan Schaub at UFC 134 in August.
Nogueira hasn’t fought since losing to current UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez via first round knockout at UFC 110: Nogueira vs. Velasquez in February of 2010. He was to face Frank Mir at UFC 119 last September, but had to pull out of the bout due to knee surgery.
For Schaub, the fight is another opportunity to score a victory over a respected PRIDE veteran. Schaub is coming off of a third round knockout of Mirk “Cro Cop” Filipovic last March, his fourth victory in a row. He had been wanting a bout with “Big Nog” since that win, and will get his wish this August.
UFC 134: Silva vs. Okami will take place on August 27, 2011 from the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event marks the first time that the organization has hosted an event in Brazil since UFC 17.5: Ultimate Brazil in 1998.
