MMAJunkie.com is reporting that Matt Riddle has been forced out of his impending welterweight match up against TJ Grant — scheduled for UFC on Versus 4 — and has been replaced by Charlie Brenneman.
The exact nature of Riddle’s injury and a projected date for his return have not yet been revealed.
Charlie “The Spaniard” Brenneman made his UFC debut last year at UFC Fight Night 21, where he took out Jason High via unanimous decision. He would slip in his return bout though, losing to Johny Hendricks via second round TKO. His most recent performance came this past January at UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 against Amilcar Alves, whom he defeated via unanimous decision, bringing his UFC record to 2-1 and his overall record to 13-2.
Canadian fighter TJ Grant has gone back and forth in his UFC career, earning a promotional record of 3-3. After making a successful debut against respected Japanese fighter Ryo Chonan in 2009, Grant would alternately lose to Dong Hyun Kim, beat Kevin Burns, lose to Johny Hendricks, beat Julio Paulino and then, in his most recent outing, lost to Ricardo Almeida. The defeat to Almeida came at UFC 124 this past December and dropped his record to 16-5.
UFC on Versus 4 is scheduled to go down at the Consol Energy Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this June 26.
