Mark Muñoz Expects Fireworks Against Demian Maia

Riding a two-fight winning streak currently capped by a first round knockout over CB Dollaway, which he earned this past March, UFC middleweight fighter Mark Muñoz will be looking to continue his climb up the ranks when he takes on submission specialist Demian Maia this June at UFC 131.

Muñoz recently spoke with and revealed that he believes a win over Maia will set him up close to a title shot.

“I believe a win over Demian will get me at least 2 fights to the title,” he said.

Should he defeat Maia and eventually earn a shot at the belt, Muñoz may find himself in a sticky situation considering that his training partner Anderson Silva currently reigns over the 185lbs. division. However, Muñoz is currently not paying much mind to what’s down the line in terms of title shots, opting instead to focus on the task at hand: Demian Maia.

“I respect Anderson as a friend and training partner,” said Muñoz. “I’ll cross that bridge when it comes.”

Muñoz shared his expectations for his bout with Maia, explaining that he anticipates an exciting fight with the Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace — one that he plans on finishing.

“I’m looking forward to a great fight ahead,” he said. “We are definitely going to put on a show. Expect fireworks! I always look to finish a fight regardless of where it’s at.”

UFC 131 is scheduled for June 11 and will take place at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
