The UFC has revealed via their official Twitter account that UFC light heavyweights Rich Franklin and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira have been scheduled to fight and also, that 135-pounders Renan Barao and Cole Escovedo will be squaring off.
From the UFC’s Twitter account: “Fight news! Lil Nog @MinotouroMMA vs. @FollowACE Franklin at 133 in Philly; Bantamweights Renan Barao vs @coleescovedo at UFC 130 in LV”
Company man Rich Franklin has bounced back and forth between middleweight, various catchweights and light heavyweight over his last several fights as the UFC has asked. The former middleweight champ has split the results of his last six fights, dropping bouts to Dan Henderson, Vitor Belfort and Forrest Griffin, while alternately picking up wins over Matt Hamill, Wanderlei Silva and Chuck Liddell. In his most recent outing, “Ace” was defeated via unanimous decision by Forrest Griffin.
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira is currently on a two-fight slide, having dropped close consecutive bouts to Ryan Bader and Phil Davis. Prior to that fight, the PRIDE FC legend had picked up two wins in the UFC, defeating Luiz Cané and Jason Brilz consecutively. Lil’ Nog most recently appeared in action against Phil Davis, to whom he lost via unanimous decision.
UFC 133 goes down this August 6th at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
25-1 Renan “Barão” do Nascimento Mota Pegado will be taking on fellow WEC veteran Cole Escovedo in a bantamweight contest at UFC 130. Escovedo recently snapped a two-fight losing streak to Michael McDonald and Michihiro Omigawa with a submission over Steven Siler. “Barão” has not lost a bout since his first professional outing back in 2005; other than a no contest in 2007, he has maintained a perfect record since then.
UFC 130: Edgar vs. Maynard 3 takes place on May 28th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
