Chael Sonnen Rips Mirko Cro Cop And Wanderlei Silva

UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen has had a hell of a time of it lately, landing in hot water with the California State Athletic Commission over improperly disclosing his usage of synthetic testosterone for hormone replacement therapy and pleading guilty to money laundering in a federal real estate fraud case.

The controversial and outspoken Oregonian has served out his CSAC-mandated suspension and has resolved his involvement in the court case; now, he’s looking for a fight.

As noted earlier this week, Sonnen recently appeared on’s The MMA Hour internet radio program with host Ariel Helwani, where he discussed the process by which he approached the UFC to find his next opponent.

“I called them up and said, ‘Give me the worst guy you’ve got under contract,'” said Sonnen. “They said, ‘Chael, Wanderlei [Silva] won’t fight you.’ I said, ‘Alright. Give me the second worst guy you’ve got under contract?’ They said, ‘Chael, how many times do we have to tell you: [Mirko] Cro Cop’s a heavyweight.’ I said, ‘Alright, is there anybody available? How about Bisping? Is his dance card open?’ And then they said that might be a possibility. So that’s where we left off.”

Sonnen last appeared in action in August at UFC 117, where he battled UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva in one of the most exciting fights of the year before succumbing to a triangle choke submission late in the fifth round.
