The UFC announced today that Jake Ellenger would be filling in for the injured Brian Foster to face Sean Pierson in a welterweight bout at UFC 129 in just over two weeks.
Foster was forced to withdraw from the fight after an MRI revealed a brain hemmorage. According to a report on MMAJunkie.com, Marc Fiore, who trains Foster at the H.I.T. Squad, said that Foster is OK but will be required to undergo another MRI in six weeks to make sure that there is no permanent damage.
Ellenberger entered into the UFC in September of 2009 against Carlos Condit at UFC Fight Night 19, sporting a record of 20-4. Ellenberger lost a controversial split decision to Condit, but would rebound with stoppage wins over tough fighters in Mike Pyle (TKO-punches) and John Howard (TKO-doctor’s stoppage). He most recently defeated Carlos Eduardo Rocha via split decision at UFC 126 this past February.
Ontario’s Sean Pierson made his UFC debut last December at UFC 124, defeated The Ultimate Fighter alum Matt Riddle via unanimous decision. He will be coming entering the fight with Ellenberger sporting a 11-4 record.
UFC 129: St-Pierre vs. Shields takes place on Saturday, April 30, 2011 from the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
