MMA superstar Gina “Conviction” Carano will be returning to the cage for the first time since August of 2009 to face a yet-to-be determined opponent at Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum on June 18th.
In a press release sent by the organization today, it was revealed that Carano, who turns 29 this Saturday, will train for this fight under the tutelage of renowned coach Greg Jackson. Jackson has trained a who’s-who of elite athletes in the sport, such as UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
Before heading to Jackson’s, Carano had been training out of Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, where she amassed a 7-0 record before meeting current Strikeforce featherweight queenpin Cris “Cyborg” Santos in her last fight back in August of 2009.
Since she last fought, Carano accepted the lead role in the Steven Soderbergh directed Haywire, slated to release this summer. Now that she has her sights set back on the cage, she is eager to get back to her first love and impress.
Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum takes place from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, June 18.
