Matt Hamill may very well open as an underdog for his late-May bout against former champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, but “The Hammer” is confident that he was what it takes to break Jackson down and defeat him. Hamill recently appeared on MMAFighting.com’s The MMA Hour, where he discussed his impending bout with Jackson and shed light on why he believes he will emerge victorious.
Hamill was awarded the bout after Jackson’s original opponent, Thiago Silva, was forced out of the fight for returning a questionable urine test in his previous appearance. The Hammer had to campaign for the fight though, and did so because of the challenges that Rampage poses.
“The first time I heard, I was really excited because I wanted to face him,” Hamill said. “I think it’s my moment and time to shine, so I’m really excited to fight Rampage.”
Hamill explained that he has been making improvements to his overall game and that, coupled with his confident mindset, will make the difference against ‘Page come fight night.
“I know I’m going to break his will –- I know I’m going to beat Rampage,” Hamill said. “I’ve been training real hard and my conditioning and my skills and technique, striking and kicking are a lot better.”
Hamill and Jackson will meet this May 28 at UFC 130: Edgar vs. Maynard 3, which will go down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
