According to a recent report written by Dave Meltzer for f4wonline.com, that’s exactly what the UFC is looking to put together.
“The plan from Spike TV and UFC for the next season of Ultimate Fighter, which would air September through December, is to have Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping as coaches to build to a PPV match in December. The winner would likely be in line for the first middleweight title match of 2012.
“Bisping and Sonnen have already started publicly trash talking. Neither UFC nor Spike can publicly announce this due to Sonnen not being licensed in Nevada. Keith Kizer, Executive Director of the commission has said he would not rubber stamp Sonnen’s license due to his contention that Sonnen lied in his California State Athletic Commission hearing in December when he claimed he and Kizer had spoken and that Kizer had approved his testosterone use exemption for Nevada due to a claimed medical condition.”
Sonnen has been in hot water since being disciplined by the NSAC following his August submission loss to Anderson Silva over not properly disclosing his usage of synthetic testosterone for testosterone replacement therapy. Shortly thereafter, Sonnen plead guilty to money laundering in a real estate fraud case, the implications of which are still playing out. Currently, the controversial Oregonian is serving a UFC-mandated suspension while his legal woes are sorted out.
Bisping was recently surrounded by his own controversy, albeit with less severe implications and repercussions. “The Count” lost his cool following a TKO win over Jorge Rivera at UFC 127 as a result of Rivera’s taunting YouTube videos, which were released during the build up of the fight. After landing an illegal knee during the fight that some have speculated was purposeful, Bisping launched a verbal tirade against Rivera and eventually spat at his cornermen.
A season of TUF featuring two of the UFC’s most notorious and entertaining trash-talkers would no doubt deliver on the entertainment front and a Bisping-Sonnen match up is intriguing enough to draw eyes anyway.
Sonnen is due in front of a judge on April 8 for sentencing.
