UFC Fight Night 24: John Hathaway Vs. Kris McCray

UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar accompanies McCray to the cage. Hathaway enters the arena to the strains of “Sympathy for the Devil” by The Rolling Stones.

Round 1: McCray engages the clinch early but Hathaway shakes him off. McCray with a leg kick. McCray ducking his head considerably while moving in with punches, but he manages to avoid getting hit and presses Hathaway into the fence. McCray fighting hard for the takedown but Hathawy offering solid resistance. Hathaway rolls for a leg lock, and turns it into a figure four foot lock. It looks nasty but McCray holds out and avoids getting subbed. McCray staying on Hathaway like glue and keeping the ground and pound constant. Hathaway stands up but McCray is still on him. McCray drags Hathaway back to the ground. Hathaway landing some nice elbows from the bottom, but McCray is nullifying his submission offense. Hathaway gets to his feet and McCray kicks him in the body on his way up. Hathaway returns the favor with a knee. scores the round 10-9 for McCray

Round 2: Hathaway lands a nice right and then presses McCray into the cage, dropping for a takedown. McCray fights it for a bit but Hathaway does get him down. McCray scrambles out of it and Hathaway lands a few nice shots as they get back to their feet. Hathaway looks for the triangle, switching to an armbar which McCray defends perfectly and uses to pass to half guard. Hathaway regains full guard and they return to their feet. Hathaway looks for another takedown and lands a nice knee to the body. McCray immediately goes for the takedown again and they begin the fight for position against the fence. Hathaway avoids and lands a few good punches before clinching to fight for the takedown. Hathaway lands a good knee to the body. McCray shoots and is quickly rejected. Hathaway takes McCray down but McCray immediately reverses it and mounts Hathaway. scores the round 10-9 for McCray

Round 3: Hathaway lands a takedown off of a nice knee; he sits in McCray’s half guard. McCray regains full guard, but Hathaway passes back to half guard on the other side. Hathaway pecking away with ground and pound. McCray sweeps Hathaway towards the middle of the round and the Brit starts trying to scoot up the wall. They get back to their feet and Hathaway scores another takedown off of a knee. McCray looks for the sweep but can’t get it off. Hathaway moves to half guard before standing over McCray and firing off a volley of punches. McCray gets to his feet with thirty to go. Hathaway avoids another takedown and Hathaway drops for one of his own, getting it with ten left in the round. McCray scrambles out at the bell. scores the round 10-9 for Hathaway

John Hathaway defeated Kris McCray via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Hathaway gives props to McCray for being a very tough and skilled opponent.
