With Zuffa, LLC’s recent purchase of the Strikeforce promotion, talks of potential super fights between UFC and Strikeforce champs drastically heated up as such bouts are now within the realm of possibility. Perhaps the most anticipated of those fights would be a heavyweight tilt between current promotional champs Cain Velasquez (UFC) and Alistair Overeem (SF).
Velasquez recently spoke with Peace Magazine about that possible fight, relaying his excitement at the prospect.
“That would be good,” Velasquez said of a match between himself and Overeem. “I’m hoping to see what happens with the tournament and I’m hoping to get back as soon as possible. I think Overeem is a really good fighter, he’s explosive, I think he’s definitely one of the best out there right now. That would be awesome for the fans as well.”
