UFC 128: Urijah Faber Vs. Eddie Wineland

Wineland chooses AC/DC for his war song and Faber sticks with “California Love” by Tupac.

Round 1: No glove touch in this bout, these two are looking to get after it. Faber moves in first, tying up with Wineland. Faber looking to toss him to the mat but Wineland avoids and presses Faber into the fence. The two are scrambling madly and Wineland lands a nice shot on the break. Faber fights his way in and briefly gets Wineland down, but Wineland gets to his feet again immediately. Wineland pressing Faber against the cage. Wineland takes Faber’s back standing and dumps him to the mat briefly. Faber misses a high kick. Faber with a nice right hand. Faber with a nice counter left hand before shooting for the takedown, but Wineland shows incredible takedown defense in avoiding that attempt and a follow up trip from Faber. Wineland lands a hard straight right. Faber returns with a big right hand of his own, and another. Wineland with a pair of jabs. scores the round 10-9 for Wineland

Round 2: That was a very close first round. Faber throws two kicks that land early. Wineland whiffs on several punches. Faber snatches a single leg that Wineland almost fights out of, but Faber follows through with it and gets him down. Faber throwing elbows from full guard. Faber posturing up now and landing shots from the top. Wineland almost kicks him off and gets to his feet but Faber stays on him and won’t let him up. Faber showing dominance but unable to land much significant offense. Faber slams Wineland from inside his guard and then lands a big elbow. scores the round 10-9 for Faber

Round 3: Wineland with a straight body shot. Faber goes over the top with a right hand. Faber shoots for a takedown but Wineland stuffs it. Faber tries for another takedown that’s stuffed, but he keeps ahold of Wineland and presses him into the cage. Wineland reverses it as the crowd chants, “Faber.” Faber gets off the cage. Faber lands a nice right hand, again. Faber finding his rhythm and landing more frequently now. Faber fails on another takedown attempt but he stays on him, drops under and completes the takedown. He slams Wineland from inside the guard before going to work with elbows and punches. Ten seconds to go and Faber is still working away from top position. scores the round 10-9 for Faber.

Urijah Faber defeated Eddie Wineland via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Faber gives props to and thanks Wineland for the tough fight. Faber warns Dominick Cruz to hide his wife, his kids and his UFC bantamweight strap.
