UFC 128: Jim Miller Vs. Kamal Shalorus

Shalorus appears collected as he makes his way to the cage to something autotune-y. Jim Miller and his moustache enter the arena to “Bad Moon Rising” by Creedence, following his brother’s lead.

Round 1: They start swinging right away, with Miller landing up the middle and Shalorus banging away with leg kicks. They both trade heavy punches. Miller with a nice right hook. The pace has slowed slightly from the frantic opening sequence. Miller goes for a flying knee that Shalorus redirects and uses to dump him to the ground. Miller gets back to his feet quickly. Shalorus lands a nice leg kick. Miller lands a nice knee from a brief clinch. Miller lands home with a big head kick that Shalorus just eats. Miller with a nice combination before dropping down for a guillotine. He didn’t quite have it and Shalorus ends up on top of him in his guard. Miller tags Shalorus up before trying for the guillotine again. scores the round 10-9 for Miller

Round 2: Shalorus loads up on a body shot and a leg kick. Another body shot for Shalorus and a nice counter uppercut from Miller. Shalorus tries for the takedown and Miller backs him off by going for a flying triangle. Good leg kick lands for Miller and then he gets a single, immediately transitioning to the back and locking up the body triangle. Shalorus is avoiding much damage or threat, but there are two minutes to go and Miller is showing no sign of letting him go. Miller is looking for the rear naked choke. Miller’s forearm isn’t under Shalorus’ jaw, so it’s just grinding across his face. It isn’t finishing him but it looks really uncomfortable. Less than thirty to go and it looks like Shalorus will ride this out. scores the round 10-9 for Miller

Round 3: Shalorus’ punches look to have slowed here at the start of the third. Miller with a nice straight left that he follows with a clinch and a knee. A leg kick thrown by Shalorus is checked. Shalorus tries for the takedown and it’s stuffed. Shalorus gets tagged low and the fight is briefly halted. Miller avoids another takedown. Miller with a nice left again and a powerful uppercut that hurts Shalorus. He follows it up with a big knee that puts Shalorus face first on the mat. Miller tees off with ground and pound until it’s over.

Jim Miller defeated Kamal Shalorus via TKO (strikes) at 2:15 of Round 3.

Miller calls for a title shot after his win, the crowd loudly supports his call.
