UFC 128: Mike Pyle Vs. Ricardo Almeida

Round 1: The first strikes that land for both men are leg kicks. Almeida complains of an eyepoke but the fight goes on. Almeida lands with a right and Pyle counters with a nice uppercut. Pyle lands it again in the next exchange. Almeida tries to drag him down but Pyle slams him to the mat and walks away. Almeida tries for another takedown that Pyle avoids easily; now they fight for position on the fence. Pyle slips off of the fence as Almeida tries to bully him and they take back the center of the cage. Almeida gets the takedown briefly but Pyle avoids and makes him pay again. Almeida lands with a nice right hand and follows it up with a few more nice strikes before initiating the clinch. Very even round so far. Pyle breaks and they trade a few strikes before the bell. scores the round 10-9 for Pyle

Round 2: They touch gloves at the start of the round. Almeida with a side kick that lands. He gets the takedown on Pyle, who immediately scoots to the fence and tries to work back to his feet, which he does in short order. They stay against the cage for some time before Pyle breaks. Pyle with a nice knee. They scramble and hit the ground briefly with Almeida on his back before returning to their feet. Both fighters having difficulty exploiting big weaknesses in the other, this is another very close fight. Pyle with a nice leg kick. Almeida returns the favor and pushes forward with a combination before securing a takedown. Pyle starts looking for the kimura right away. He doesn’t get it, but he keeps Almeida from getting any offense going until the bell. scores the round 10-9 for Almeida

Round 3: They both look to land kicks early. Pyle looks a little looser to start, throwing more kicks than earlier rounds. The crowd boos. Each fighter still unable to put anything together with 3:10 left in the round. Pyle with a body shot and a body kick. He lands a good knee as they break on the clinch and gets Almeida down in a subsequent exchange. Pyle backs off and can’t decide if he wants to let him up or not. His moment of hesitance gives Alemida the window he needs to get ahold of him, which he does before pressing him against the cage. A minute to go and they’re still fighting for position against the fence. Pyle lands a nice knee. Another. Almeida gets a brief takedown before Pyle immediately returns to his feet, landing a knee as they fight against the fence. Pyle gets a takedown and Almeida hops to his feet at the bell. scores the round 10-9 for Pyle
