Match Up Round Up: Garcia Vs. Phan 2, Maldonado Vs. Kingsbury

In the latest UFC match up news, a rematch has been replaced with a rematch and two UFC light heavyweight fighters will duke it out to try and establish themselves as prospects in the muddled 205lbs. division.

Nam Phan and Leonard Garcia were scheduled to fight in a rematch of their controversial December meeting later this month at UFC Fight Night: Nogueira vs. Davis, but Phan was forced to pull out of the fight due to injury and “The Korean Zombie” – Chan Sung Jung – has stepped up in his place.

Jung became an instant MMA sensation following his WEC debut, which he made in April of last year against Garcia, for his go-for-broke style and willingness to engage/take punishment. He is currently on a two-fight losing streak though, having lost that bout to Garcia (via very controversial split decision) and then succumbing to defeat (head kick knockout) against George Roop at WEC 51 this past September. The loss to Roop was Jung’s last appearance in the cage; he was scheduled to fight Rani Yahya in January but had to withdraw for an injury. Garcia’s last three fights have ended in split decision and the only one not controversial was the one he lost to Mark Hominick. Regardless, the “Bad Boy” always brings it and this rematch with Jung promises to deliver nothing less than fireworks.

UFC Fight Night: Nogueira vs. Davis goes down on March 26 at the Key Arena in Seattle, Washington.

In light heavyweight action, impressive Brazilian fighter Fabio Maldonado and The Ultimate Fighter 8 contestant Kyle Kingsbury will square off at The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale this June.

Following his stint on TUF 8 and his failed UFC debut against Tom Lawlor, Kingsbury has rattled off three wins in the Octagon over the likes of Razak Al-Hassan, Jared Hamman, and Ricardo Romero. Kingsbury sports an overall record of 10-2 and trains out of the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California. Maldonado has not lost a bout since 2007, cranking out wins in eleven straight contests. He made his UFC debut this past October, knocking out James McSweeney in the third round of their UFC 120 meeting; he has not appeared in the cage since.

The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale goes down on June 4 this year at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.
