Brendan Schaub Looking To Set “An Intense Pace” Against “Cro Cop”

Brendan Schaub is less than a week shy from taking on one of the sport’s most respected competitors in Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic but, despite the fearsome reputation “Cro Cop” built in Pride FC and the revered status he has cultivated amongst fans, “The Hybrid” isn’t holding anything back against Filipovic.

Responding to “Cro Cop’s” assertion that he is physically stronger and a better striker than his younger opponent (he said this during a live video call with Croatian site, Schaub told that he believes this is his fight through and through and that he’ll out-strike and out-muscle “Cro Cop” if he wants to.

“I think it’s funny. As far as him being stronger, man, that’s almost comical,” said Schaub. “As far as taking the fight to the ground, I will take this fight wherever I want to go. If I want to knock ‘Cro Cop’ out, I’ll keep it standing and knock him out. If I want to take him down and submit him, I’ll do that. It just depends on what I feel like come March 19.”

While Schaub is riding a three-fight winning streak capped by an impressive win over Gabriel Gonzaga, “Cro Cop” is coming off of a knockout loss to Frank Mir, which came at the end of an absolute stinker of a fight back in September. In regards to the former Croatian parliamentarian’s last performance, Schaub told FightLine, “Let me tell you something about (‘Cro Cop’s’) last fight. You can come to my gym in Denver, Colorado on any Tuesday or Thursday and get a more entertaining sparring match out of (Shane) Carwin and myself and we’ll only charge you $19.95.”

MMA fans who are unable to afford a ticket to the Grudge Training Center in Wheat Ridge, Colorado will likely not be disappointed in this weekend’s UFC 128 pay-per-view – or at least in the part where Schaub fights “Cro Cop” – because the 27-year old pledged to take the fight to Filipovic.

“I set a high pace and I think it’s tough for anyone to keep up with, just ask Gabriel Gonzaga. It’s all about me come March 19 and if I’m setting the pace, it’s gonna be an intense pace.”

Schaub will look to further ascend the heavyweight ranks when he takes on “Cro Cop” this Saturday night at UFC 128: Shogun vs. Jones, which goes down at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
