MMA legend Randy “The Natural” Couture was issued a one-fight license yesterday by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for his upcoming bout with Lyoto Machida at UFC 129 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario.
The 47-year old former two-divisional UFC champion had to be sanctioned by the NSAC because the Ontario commission requires that a fighter be licensed from their home state before they issue a license. The commission requires all fighters over 35 years of age to go through a special licensing process, which includes a physical.
“I’ve been very active this last year,” Couture told the Las Vegas Sun via telephone. “It’s not like I have had any time off. I’m ready to compete and healthy as a horse.”
Couture had been campaigning for some time for a bout with Machida because the Brazilian karateka’s enigmatic offense presented him with interesting stylistic challenges which he believes he can overcome. Couture gets his wish on April 30 on the main card of the event.
