Miguel Torres Vs Brad Pickett Official For UFC 130

The UFC has confirmed that former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres and fellow former WEC fighter Brad Pickett will be squaring off at UFC 130 this coming May.

Fresh off of making his UFC debut, Torres has breathed life back into his career by switching the bulk of his training to the renowned Tristar Gym in Montreal, Quebec, under the tutelage of Firas Zahabi, who has helped craft the games of fighters like Kenny Florian and Georges St. Pierre. Torres went on a two-fight skid in the waning days of the WEC, losing his title to Brian Bowles by knockout and then failing to get back on track in a subsequent fight with Joseph Benavidez, which he lost by submission. However, the East Chicago native is currently on a two-fight winning streak, having defeated both Charlie Valencia and Antonio Banuelos since hooking up with Zahabi at Tristar. Torres recently fought for the first time inside the Octagon, taking out Banuelos by unanimous decision at UFC 126 last month.

London, England native Brad Pickett bounced back from an August decision loss to Scott Jorgensen by taking out Ivan Menjivar at the WEC’s last show, WEC 53, this past December. Prior to dropping a decision to Jorgensen, Pickett had managed to string together nine victories in a row, two of those which came in the WEC and one over current rising prospect Demetrious Johnson. With a record of 20-5, a win over Torres would considerably advance Pickett’s position in the UFC’s bantamweight title, possibly placing one or two fights away from a title shot. “One Punch” has yet to make his UFC debut since the promotion absorbed the WEC at the end of last year.

UFC 130: Edgar vs. Maynard 3 will take place this May 28th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and will feature the rubber match between UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and challenger Gray Maynard.
