Vitor Belfort was shot down quickly in his middleweight title fight against Anderson Silva earlier this month, eating a front kick the champ delivered in the first round that put him on his back unconscious for the first time in his career. “The Phenom” isn’t letting the loss slow him down though, as he has begun campaigning on Twitter for a fight against Michael Bisping, who reached a new level of infamy over the weekend for his less-than-scrupulous performance against Jorge Rivera.
“@danawhite great card tonight! Please set up @vitorbelfort vs Bisping to teach him a lesson about spitting on people,” Belfort wrote, referencing Bisping’s post-fight antics, which included spitting at Rivera’s corner.
Belfort expressed his desire to get back in action quickly, stating that he wants to fight Bisping in May.
“On my way to the airport going back to vegas I am looking forward to fight bisping on may card I need to fight soon I want to get busy,” he said.
The only UFC card currently scheduled for May is UFC 130, which is already full enough that Thiago Alves vs. Rick Story will likely be relegated to the preliminary card portion of the event. While it is unlikely Bisping and Belfort will meet in May, a match up between the two makes some sense as Bisping is seeking a step up in competition and Belfort needs a win over a quality middleweight to stay relevant in that division.
