UFC 127: George Sotiropoulos Vs. Dennis Siver

Siver looking very stern, apparently amped up by the Papa Roach jam he chose for his walk out tune. The crowd, predictably quiet for Siver’s entrance, comes alive when Sotiropoulos emerges looking like a man possessed to some ACDC. Leon Roberts will oversee this bout.

Round 1: No gloves touch from these two either. Both men throwing test strikes early, just pecking away so far. Sotiropoulos goes for the takedown early and Siver avoids easily. Sotiropoulos grabs a straight kick delivered by Siver and presses him against the cage. Siver shows some BJ Penn-esque balance in avoiding the takedown. Siver lands a nice punch, Sotiropoulos shoots in deep and Siver avoids easily. Siver digs in with a leg kick to Sotiropoulos’ lead leg. Siver barely misses a wheel kick. Siver tags Sotiropoulos again, who recovers quickly. Siver drops Sotiropoulos with a punch. Sotiropoulos gets to his feet and is dropped again. Siver lets him up and is head hunting now. Sotiropoulos dives for a takedown that is easily avoided. Siver with a nice right straight. Sotiropoulos tries for a takedown again. Sotiropoulos misses a turning side kick. scores the round 10-9 for Siver

Round 2: Siver gets a little wild on a whirring combination. Sotiropoulos showing better foot and head movement, keeping Siver a little more honest, but Siver is threatening consistently with left hooks. Siver with a front kick. Sotiropoulos struggles for a takedown but Siver throws him off and makes him pay with a combination. Siver’s takedown defense is looking very solid as he shrugs off another takedown with ease. Sotiropoulos looking out of his depth right now. Sotiropoulos with a nice right hand. Sotiropoulos keeping Siver slightly more honest here and he finds a home for his left hand. He tries for another takedown that fails, but he is turning things up against Siver, landing much more consistently on the feet. Siver’s difficult weight cut may be playing a factor in his slowed pace. Sotiropoulos with a nice punch combination and a body kick to finish. This one is close, but Sotiropoulos finished stronger. scores the round 10-9 for Sotiropoulos

Round 3: Siver with a nice pair of kicks, and then he defends another takedown from Sotiropoulos. Siver with a front kick. Siver reducing his volume of strikes, but avoiding most anything of significance from Sotiropoulos. He avoids another takedown. Sotiropoulos lands a nice kick and then a jab. He fails on another takedown and then they get into a heated punch exchange which ends mostly evenly. Siver with a nice leg kick and then another defended takedown. Siver uncorks a combination with bad intentions to Sotiropoulos’ body. Siver throwing with more power and he lands his spinning back kick, which Sotiropoulos seems to shake off well. Siver making Sotiropoulos fight his fight, and he’s doing a better hob of it in the closing moments of the fight. Still a close round, but I give it to Siver for stopping all of the takedowns. scores the round 10-9 for Siver

Dennis Siver defeated George Sotiropoulos via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-28, 30-27)

Siver credits his win to a hard training and a good game plan. Sotiropoulos credits Siver for having stellar takedown defense, he is humble and respectful in defeat as Siver was in victory.
