UFC 127: Chris Lytle Vs. Brian Ebersole

Ebersole makes his way to the cage in boxing head gear to the strains of “Won’t Back Down” by Tom Petty. Also, his chest hair is shaved into the shape of an arrow pointing at his head. Lytle looking like it’s just another day at the office.

Round 1: No glove touch at the start. Ebersole tries a cartwheel kick to start, but Lytle avoids. Lytle unloads some heavy uppercuts against the cage. Ebersole tries a takedown/push thing that doesn’t pan out. Lytle stuffs a takedown attempt. Lytle with a sick body shot followed by one upstairs. He catches a kick and makes Ebersole pay with a heavy shot. Ebersole tries for the takedown again and Lytle goes for the guillotine. Ebersole avoids but Lytle hangs on and eventually reverses. Ebersole on his back, Lytle working side control. Lytle goes for the guillotine again, pulling Ebersole into full guard. Lytle releases and they’re back to their feet against the cage. Lytle tries for the guillotine again, then switches to a triangle that fails. Lytle rolls for a knee bar almost immediately after which also doesn’t pan out. Ebersole cuts Lytle with an elbow. Gets up and goes to his corner before the bell… Close one. scores it 10-9 for Lytle

Round 2: Ebersole with a body kick. Lytle returns with a volley of punches. Lytle winging away while Ebersole gets creative with unorthodox attacks, including a spinning back kick. Lytle whiffs on a haymaker, Ebersole on a lunging knee. Lytle missing more than usual, this is a closer round, and fight, than most expected. Ebersole with a nice body kick, then a failed takedown. Lytle chasing Ebersole down with bombs that mostly miss. Lytle with a body kick that lands without much pop. Ebersole goes for the takedown and gets it briefly, but Lytle pops back up. Ebersole drops Lytle with a big knee! He’s going for a choke on a dazed Lytle, but “Lights Out” survives. Ebersole tries for a standing arm triangle and then throws the knees. He lands a nice right hand and then goes for the takedown, slamming Lytle to the mat. Complete domination by Ebersole, who ends the round throwing shoulder strikes. scores the round 10-9 for Ebersole

Round 3: Ebersole misses on his cartwheel kick again. He goes on the attack, which Ebersole disrupts by going for a takedown. Lytle stuffs the takedown but he ends up on his back after a scramble anyway. Lytle looks tired here, and Ebersole is all over him, even briefly taking his back standing. Lytle sneaks out on top, with Ebersole pressed against the cage. Lytle goes for a side choke and it looks tight but Ebersole gets out quickly and regains top position. Lytle tries repeatedly for the guillotine to no avail. Ebersole posturing up with some strikes before getting back to their feet. Ebersole is smothering Lytle and keeping him pressed against the cage. Lytle looks exhausted and may have dropped his mouth piece, while Ebersole Randy Coutures him against the cage. The ref separates them, turns out to be Ebersole’s mouth guard. They exchange and Ebersole gets the best of it, mixing up his strikes. Ebersole goes for a takedown and briefly gets it, then avoids a kneebar. Ebersole in Lytle’s guard, lands with another big elbow. scores the round 10-9 for Ebersole

This should be a big upset win for Ebersole. Lytle is cut wide open.

Brian Ebersole defeated Chris Lytle via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
