According to AddictedMMA.com, banned-from-the-UFC welterweight Paul “Semtex” Daley has missed weight for his weekend bout against DEEP champion Yuya Shirai.
Daley tipped the scales two pounds over the 170lbs. limit for welterweight title fights and was then given another hour to shed the remaining pounds. At the end of that hour, Daley returned to the scales and registered 170.4, which is still over the strict 170lbs. title fight cap.
Now, Daley and Shirai’s BAMMA 5 main event bout has been converted to a three-round, non-title fight. The fight will take place tomorrow night at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England.
Daley has refused to appear at the BAMMA 5 press conference and has indicated that his failure to make weight was the result of an issue with the saunas provided for the fighters.
This marks the fifth time that Daley has failed to make weight in his career, as he weighed in over the welterweight limit for MFC 19 in 2008, MFC 20 in 2009, UFC 108 in 2010, and, most recently, Shark Fights 14 in 2010.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez also failed to make weight for his 215lbs. catchweight fight against James McSweeney, tipping the scales at 216.8lbs..
