Junior Dos Santos: “Lesnar Is A Nice Guy, But We Don’t Speak Too Much”

This upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter (the thirteenth) will feature two heavyweights, former champ Brock Lesnar and top contender Junior dos Santos, coaching a cast of fourteen welterweights as they fight for a chance to be on the UFC roster. Upon the conclusion of TUF 13, Lesnar and dos Santos will square off in the cage to determine the next heavyweight contender. With taping having already begun, dos Santos recently spoke with Ray Flores about his experiences in dealing with Lesnar and his thoughts on their eventual fight.

“He’s [Lesnar] a nice guy,” dos Santos said of the at-times gruff Lesnar. “He’s a very nice guy but we don’t speak too much to each other. Just say hi and that’s it.”

On their eventual match up, dos Santos predicts that he will be able to hurt Lesnar based on the former champ’s recent bouts against Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez, in which he was stumbled by heavy shots.

“[Lesnar] shows he doesn’t have a good chin to accept punches,” said dos Santos.

“I think I am faster than him, so I will try to use my speed, throw some punches and try to keep the fight standing up to win…,” he continued. “I’m going to give all that I have to try to knock him out, for sure.”

Dos Santos was scheduled to face the man who dethroned Lesnar, Cain Velazquez, but a shoulder injury currently has the champ on the shelf and indefinitely pushed back his fight with dos Santos. “Cigano” explained that he chose not to rust while Velasquez recovered simply due to the amount of time he would have to spend out and also because of he was offered a coaching spot on TUF.

“I was to fight Cain Velasquez but he got hurt in the shoulder and is gonna stay out for one year. It’s too long to wait,” he said. “Then I got approached to film ‘TUF’ and I said yes in the same instant.”

The Ultimate Fighter 13 will begin airing on March 30th on Spike TV.
