Jorge Rivera has done his best to get into Michael Bisping’s head since their fight was announced, issuing several inflammatory claims in interviews and then releasing a series of YouTube videos defaming Bisping with the help of his sponsor Ranger Up. The videos have been most entertaining and have drummed up interest for a fight toward which many fans were feeling lukewarm, but they may not have been enough to rile up “The Count.”
In a recent interview conducted by The Daily Telegraph, Bisping indicated that Rivera’s videos have only increased his focus for the fight and that “Él Conquistador” has made himself look “like an idiot” for no reason.
“I’m extremely focused for this fight. I’m growing as a fighter and I’m growing as a person. I’m 32 the day after this fight. I get a little excited at times but I want to be mature, I want to be a role model to my kids. My kids are getting older now, my kids are starting to watch this type of thing so I want to handle myself with a little more class,” Bisping said. “I wish I could say the same for Rivera, the guy has acted like an idiot. That’s the only word. Without going into it too much, the guy has acted like an absolute idiot and he’s made a fool out of himself.… He sold his soul for the sake of a few YouTube hits, he’s tried to wind me up and it hasn’t worked. He’s made me more focused and more determined than ever to win this fight.”
Bisping and Rivera will meet this weekend in the co-main event of UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch, which will be going down at the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia. Don’t forget to check back at FightLine.com Saturday night for our live, ongoing coverage of the card.
