MMAMania.com is reporting that a match up between UFC welterweights Rick Story and Thiago Alves has been made official for UFC 130, which goes down this May.
Long considered to be one of the top fighters in the UFC’s welterweight division, 27-year old Brazilian bomber Thiago “Pitbull” Alves recently rebounded from disappointing back-to-back losses to Georges St. Pierre and Jon Fitch by dismantling the very tough John Howard en route to a unanimous decision this past December. The American Top Team member seems to be on the upswing since failing to make weight and barely showing up to fight against Fitch last August. Alves employed the services of nutritionist Mike Dolce, who has helped fighters like Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Vitor Belfort more easily and healthily cut weight, for his last fight against Howard to great effect.
Rick “Horror” Story has not been a mainstay in the welterweight division like Alves, but he has managed to amass a 5-1 record in the division, which is one of the toughest in the UFC. After failing in his UFC debut against John Hathaway back at UFC 99, Story strung together five wins over Brian Foster, Jesse Lennox, Nick Osipczak, Dustin Hazelett and Johny Hendricks. Sporting an overall record of 12-3, Story has also earned one Submission of the Night and one Fight of the Night bonus during his tenure in the UFC. His latest win, which came over Hendricks, surprised many as Story was considered to be a less competent wrestler than Hendricks but out-wrestled his opponent anyway.
UFC 130: Edgar vs. Maynard 3 is set to go down this May 28th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
