Jason McLean defeated Kevin Roddy via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Josh LaBerge defeated Anthony Leone via TKO (cut) at 5:00 of Round 1.

Sam Oropeza defeated Don Carlo-Clauss via submission (strikes) at 4:10 of Round 1.

Igor Gracie defeated John Salgado via submission (arm-triangle choke) at 3:04 of Round 2.

John Cholish defeated Marc Stevens via submission (kneebar) at 3:57 of Round 2.


Heavyweight Grand Prix reserve bout
Valentijn Overeem vs. Ray Sefo

Round 1: Both fighters touch gloves to start. They trade leg kicks and Sefo lands a jab and block a high kick. Sefo charges in with punches. Sefo is getting the better of Overeem standing so Overeem takes him down. Overeem sweeps Sefo’s leg and gets side mount and proceeds to lock in a neck crank, forcing Sefo to tap.

Valentijn Overeem defeated Ray Sefo via submission (neck crank) at of 1:37 Round 1.

Fedor Emelianenko is interviewed backstage and said that he was happy to participate in tonight’s tournament, and feels that the popularity of M1-Global and Strikeforce will grow after tonight.

Chad Griggs vs. Gianpiero Villante

Round 1: The heavyweights come out swinging. Villante lands a couple of leg kicks. They continue swinging with Griggs getting the better of it. Villante clinched Griggs against the cage. Griggs broke free and landed some more big punches. The two started trading big punches again. Villante tried to take Griggs down but Griggs continued to land big punches. Villante landed a big head kicks that fazed Griggs and tried to follow up with a second, but the referee paused the action because Villante’s mouthpiece came out. The fight was restarted and Griggs kept swinging and knocked Villante to the ground. Villante got back to his feet only to be nailed with a series of punches from Griggs, sending Villante back to the ground again. Griggs followed up with more punches on the ground, forcing the referee to stop the bout. Sloppy but fun fight.

Chad Griggs defeated Gianpiero Villante via TKO (strikes) at 2:49 of Round 1.

Fabricio Werdum and Alistair Overeem were interviewed at cageside. Overeem talked about wanting the fight with Werdum, saying he wanted payback for his earlier loss. Overeem said the winner of the tournament is undoubtedly number one. Werdum said he’s here to win and he can beat Fedor and Overeem again. For tonight’s Fedor -Silva fight, Werdum said he’s pulling for Silva, but would like to face Fedor again. Overeem gave Fedor a slight advantage.

Josh Barnett and Brett Rogers were also interviewed. Barnett said it was an advantage that he hadn’t faced that guys in the tournament before. He gave props to Rogers, and Rogers went on to start that he still has the hunger and desire to be the best.

Shane Del Rosario vs. Lavar Johnson

Round 1: Johnson came out swinging and Del Rosario went for the clinch and pressed Johnson against the cage. They traded knees to the body before Johnson to Del Rosario to the ground. Johnson landed a few punches before Del Rosario got back to his feet. Johnson went for another takedown and pressed Del Rosario against the cage. The two started trading punches. Del Rosario managed to get a takedown and got side control. He got mount and landed some ground and pound. Del Rosario continued landing punches from the top. Johnson almost escaped, but Del Rosario regained position. With the round coming to an end, Del Rosario locked in an armbar. Johnson looked like he was about to escape, but ended up tapping.

Shane Del Rosario defeated Lavar Johnson via submission (armbar) at 4:31 of Round 1.

Heavyweight Grand Prix quarterfinal bout
Andrei Arlovski vs. Sergei Kharitonov

Round 1: Arlovski with leg kicks and a right hand early. Arlovski charged in and landed more punches, followed by a series of close uppercuts. Kharitonov is stalking Arlovki while Arlovski peppered him with punches. Kharitonov landed a big right hand that rocked Arlovski. Kharitonov started teeing off and nailed Arlovksi with a big knee. Kharitonov landed another big right that floored Arlovski and followed up with several punches on the ground as the referee stopped the bout. That’s four straight losses for Arlovski.

Sergei Kharitonov defeated Andrei Arlovski via KO (strikes) at 2:49 of Round 1.

After the bout, Kharitonov thanked the Russian fans in the crowd and said that Russia was the best, which drew some boos from the crowd. He said that he had a lot of respect for Arloski and hopes that they can become friends. He said he doesn’t care what the experts say and that he will win the tournament.

A promo aired announcing that Gina Carano was returning to the organization. She was interviewed cageside and talked about her new movie Haywire coming out this summer. She said she was coming back and needed to get “back in there for me.” She said she’ll be back soon after putting in some gym time.

Heavyweight Grand Prix quarterfinal bout
Fedor Emelianenko vs. Antonio Silva

Round 1: Crowd is going crazy for Fedor at the start. Fedor comes in with an overhand right. Fedor comes in swinging again. Fedor landed a couple of punches, but managed to get caught with a counter. Silva clinched Fedor against the cage, and landed some knees to the legs. They were quickly separated and Fedor came in with an overhand right and started teeing off again. Silva caught Fedor with a big right that forced Fedor to back off. Silva pressed Fedor against the cage, Fedor had Silva in a headlock and Silva took the fight to the ground, but Fedor got on top and quickly got back to his feet. Fedor landed some punches from the top and got in Silva’s guard and got some ground and pound. He went for a kimura but Silva quickly escaped and both fighters got back to their feet. Silva pegged Fedor with a straight right and pressed Fedor against the cage. Silva landed several punches and took Fedor to the ground and stayed on top as the round ended. scores the round 10-9 for Silva.

Round 2: Fedor went for a big overhand right at the start of the round but Silva ducked and took Fedor to the ground. Silva managed to land some punches from the top while in Fedor’s guard. Silva got side control and north-south, before switching to the other side and getting mount. Silva started landing some big hammerfists and Fedor turned around, and Silva went for the rear-naked choke. Silva got back in mount and continued to land big punches and went for the rear-naked choke again, but was unable to secure it. Silva got back into mount and continued to drop hammerfists. He then went for an arm triangle, but Fedor was able to eventually escape. Silva kept busy on top and then went for a knee bar. Fedor went for a leglock of his own and Silva motioned that he wasn’t being hurt as the round ended. Dominant round for Silva. scores the round 10-8 for Silva.

Fedor’s right eye is swollen shut and referee Dan Miragliotta has called a stop to the fight.

Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva defeated Fedor Emelianenko via TKO (doctor’s stoppage) at 5:00 of Round 2.

After the bout, Silva showed respect and bowed to Fedor. Silva was in tears as the decision was read. Silva was annoyed that he was overlooked in this fight. He thanked his team, and gave his respect once again to Fedor.

Fedor said that something went wrong from the beginning of the fight, and said that it may now be time to leave. When asked if it was his last time in the cage, he responded, “Yes, maybe it’s high time… Maybe it’s god’s will.” He went on to thank the fans for their support and thanked god.
