Rashad Evans found himself forced out of his planned title match with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua due to a knee injury this past week, an unfortunate situation which paved the way for his teammate/friend Jon Jones to get the opportunity instead. Evans has been on the shelf for the past year while Rua recovered from a knee injury, not having fought since he defeated Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 114 last Memorial Day weekend.
Life has come full circle for “Suga” as MMAWeekly is reporting that Evans’ next fight is set for this Memorial Day weekend — and it’s once again against “Rampage” Jackson. Evans will be filling in for Thiago Silva, who was forced to withdraw from the bout.
Though Evans and Jackson begrudgingly offered each other respect following their three round battle at UFC 114, Evans recently revealed to MMA:30 that the two recently almost engaged in an impromptu fourth round when they ran into each other in a Las Vegas nightclub.
“We got into each other’s faces a little bit and then this fool had the nerve to hit me,” said Evans. “He slapped me. I slapped him back, then the bouncers came and that was it.”
Evans will get his chance to get his hands on Rampage yet again at UFC 130 on May 28, 2011 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is scheduled to be headlined by UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar defending his title against Gray Maynard.
