The UFC awarded four fighters who competed on tonight’s UFC 126: Silva vs. Belfort fight card bonuses for best knockout, submission and overall fight. The evening’s bonuses came in the amount of $75,000 apiece.
It was a big night for UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who extended his current record-setting UFC winning streak to thirteen, and his record for the most consecutive UFC title defenses to eight after knocking out fellow Brazilian Vitor Belfort in the first round. To make the night even sweeter, Silva also took home the “Knockout of the Night” bonus.
It was also a huge night for light-heavyweight prospect Jon Jones as he earned a title shot against UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua after submitting previously undefeated Ryan Bader in the second round. Jones will be replacing his training partner Rashad Evans against Rua, after it was revealed that Evans had blown his knee out in training.
