UFC 126: Anderson Silva Vs. Vitor Belfort

Belfort shouting, smiling and bouncing on his way to the cage. Silva’s son accompanying him during the walk out, “The Spider” looks relaxed as ever. Steven Segal greets him by the cage. Seriously. Mario Yamasaki will oversee this bout for the UFC middleweight championship. Silva initiates a bow in the center of the cage.

Buckle up kids.

Round 1: The crowd chants, “Vitor” immediately. Things start measured, with both men looking poised to attack. The crowd gets restless early, but the two stay feeling each other out. Silva feinting, Belfort with a glancing low kick. Silva dropping his hands as they continue circling. Silva jiving with his hands. Belfort lunges in with a one-two that comes close to landing. Belfort gets Silva goes down after he misses a head kick but “The Spider” scrambles to his feet. They start trading and Silva avoids Belfort’s attack. Silva lands with a front kick to the face that knocks Belfort out, the follow up ground and pound seals it. Yamasaki steps in to stop it. Wow.

Silva immediately goes to Belfort on the ground to check on him, they embrace and Silva helps him to his feet.

Anderson Silva defeated Vitor Belfort via KO at 3:25 of Round 1.

Silva and Belfort embrace again, exchanging words in Portuguese. Silva very gracious in victory, extending profuse thanks and imploring the crowd to respect Belfort.

Belfort pledges to return. Says he came to fight because that’s what the UFC is about.
