Rashad Evans Out, Jon Jones In Against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua For Title

Jon Jones got a lot more than the biggest win of his career tonight at UFC 126.

Immediately after Jones dominated Ryan Bader en route to a second round submission victory, UFC announcer Joe Rogan dropped a bombshell. Rogan informed the crowd that Rashad Evans had blown out his knee and will not be able to face UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua for the title. Rogan asked Jones if he would be willing to step in on his training partner’s behalf to face Shogun, and Jones enthusiastically accepted.

“I feel great, God is so good!” Jones said after the fight. “I’m going for the title, baby! Let’s do it.”

Rua entered the cage and expressed his respect for Jones.

“He’s a great fighter. I respect him,” said Rua. “I’m a professional. I’ll fight anyone, no problem.”

Jones showed the world tonight that he truly has arrived. And he may soon have a belt to prove it.
