A lightweight match up between Joe “Daddy” Stevenson and Danny “Last Call” Castillo has been made official for the upcoming UFC on Versus 3 fight card; MMAJunkie.com was the first to report the fight.
Previously a number one UFC 155lb. contender, Joe Stevenson has stumbled in his last two outings and has gone 3-4 since fighting BJ Penn for the vacant lightweight title back in January of 2008. The 28-year old Brazilian jiu-jitsu and judo black belt bounced back from consecutive losses to Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez with wins over Nate Diaz and Spencer Fisher. From there he would lose a decision to rising prospect George Sotiropoulos, earning Fight of the Night honors in the process. His most recent outing resulted in a disappointing and surprising first round knockout loss to Mac Danzig and his current two-fight skid could mean that Joe “Daddy” is looking at a must-win scenario against Castillo.
Though he failed in his WEC debut against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and eventually posted two losses in a row in the promotion to Shane Roller and Anthony Pettis, Team Alpha Male product Danny Castillo is currently enjoying a two-fight winning streak. He recently defeated both Dustin Poirier (who spoiled Josh Grispi’s featherweight title aspirations at UFC 125) and Will Kerr, by unanimous decision and knockout, respectively. His overall record stands at 10-3.
UFC on Versus 3, also titled UFC Live: Sanchez vs. Kampmann, is scheduled to take place at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky this March 3rd.
