In a press release sent out today by the UFC, it was revealed that bantamweight standouts Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto and Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson will have their fight streamed live to the public via social media outlet Facebook.com.
Though the UFC 126 main card will be broadcast on pay-per-view and two bouts from the preliminary card (Chad Mendes vs. Michihiro Omigawa and Donald Cerrone vs. Paul Kelly) will air live on Spike TV, Yamamoto and Johnson’s bout was relegated to the section of the prelim card only to be seen by those in live attendance.
Once the official UFC 126 card was released, a number of fans expressed to UFC president Dana White via Twitter their wish to see the two bantamweights square off live; White promised that he had “something special” planned for Yamamoto-Johnson and it seems as though he has delivered.
“We understand the power of social media,” said White. “Fans all over the world have been telling me that they want to see this fight! You got it. We are going to be broadcasting live on Facebook, giving UFC fans all over the world access to a great fight between Kid Yamamoto and Demetrious Johnson. Plus, we’re continuing to show that we are the best at using social media to attract new fans.”
The fight will be broadcast live and free at 8:25 p.m. ET/5:25 p.m. PT on http://www.facebook.com/ufc.
