Nick Diaz vs. Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos

Round 1: Cyborg went for a high kick early that missed. Cyborg landed several inside leg kicks. Diaz landed a couple of punches and pushed Cyborg against the cage. They traded knees to the body before Cyborg broke free and went back to the center of the cage. Diaz landed a stiff jab and landed some more punches while Cyborg continued to land inside leg kicks. Cyborg landed a nice one-two punch and several punches. The two fighters continued to trade punches. Cyborg with more devastating inside leg kicks, including one that almost took Diaz to the ground. Cyborg landed more big punches. Diaz came in a with a series of punches and started punching away and got Cyborg in trouble. Diaz continued to pepper Cyborg with punches and landed jab after jab. Cyborg came back with more punches but Diaz stayed alert and worked the body. Cyborg is looking tired. Diaz landed more punches to end the round. Great, close first round. scores the round 10-9 for Cyborg.

Round 2: Cyborg attempted more high kicks early and landed an inside leg kick. They traded kicks and Diaz continued to come in while Cyborg swung away. Diaz started landing punches and peppering Cyborg with jabs. More inside leg kicks from Cyborg. They then started trading elbows to the head while standing. Loud “Diaz” chant from the crowd. Diaz connected with a 1-2 combo but Cyborg came back with punches. Both fighters continuing to trade blows. Cyborg with a knee and a nice combination. Cyborg went for a thai clinch, but Diaz escaped. Cyborg took Diaz to the ground with 30 seconds left. Diaz went for the armbar and was able to lock it in forcing Cyborg to tap with only seconds left in the round.

Nick Diaz defeated Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos via submission (armbar) at 4:50 of Round 2.

After the bout, Diaz admitted to respecting the way Cyborg fights. Diaz noted that he should have checked Cyborg’s kicks better. Diaz thanked his team and when asked who he would like to fight next, Diaz simply said that he would “fight anybody.”
