Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Robbie Lawler
Round 1: The two touch gloves to start. Both men circle each other early on. Jacare pushes Lawler to the cage and takes Lawler to the ground. Jacare got side control and landed some punches to the head. Jacare moved to the north-south position and then back into side control. Lawler broke free and got back to his feet. They traded punches and Lawler hurt Jacare with a knee. Lawler landed some punches that hurt Jacare, and Jacare fell to the canvas. Lawler followed him down and got in Jacare’s guard. Lawler stayed in his guard until “Big” John McCarthy separated them. Lawler landed some more punches, but Jacare was able to take Lawler to the ground and control him as the round ended. Round 2: Jacare charged and pressed Lawler up against the cage and took him to the mat. Jacare worked to get mount and landed punches from the top. Jacare went for an arm triangle choke, but Lawler was able to block and Jacare immediately let go. Jacare got side control and landed more punches to the head. Jacare tried to get mount again and landed some big punches from the top. Jacare passed and got side control again. Jacare went for a leg and got to his feet. Jacare got Lawler’s arm and went for an armbar, but Lawler broke free. Jacare immediately went for another arm bar, but Lawler broke free again. FightLine.com scores the round 10-9 for Jacare.
Round 3: Jacare charged and landed some muay thai knees. Jacare went for a single leg, but Lawler was able to defend. Jacare landed some more knees and took Lawler to the ground and went for side control. Jacare pressed Lawler against the cage and landed more knees. Jacare was able to secure a body triangle and managed to cinch in a rear-naked choke, forcing Lawler to tap.
Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza defeated Robbie Lawler via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:00 of Round 3.
After the bout, Jacare said that he had great coaches, friends and training partners and feels great right now. When asked if there were any opponents that he’d like to face, Jacare said that anyone but he’d like to fight again soon.
