MMAJunkie.com is reporting that UFC light heavyweight fighters Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Thiago Silva will likely be squaring off this May. The bout has been verbally agreed upon, but the bout agreements have yet to be signed.
A PRIDE FC veteran and former UFC light heavyweight champion, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson recently rebounded from a decision loss to rival Rashad Evans by scoring a razor-thin split decision victory over fellow former champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida at UFC 123 in November of last year. Since knocking out Wanderlei Silva at UFC 92 in 2008, Jackson has had inconsistent performances, and has only fought three times since. Usually a highlight reel fixture, Jackson has fought to decision in his last three bouts, defeating Machida and Keith Jardine, while falling to Evans. The Memphis native pledged prior to the Machida fight to rededicate himself to the sport of MMA, as he was admittedly distracted by his acting career leading up to his grudge match with Evans.
American Top Team fighter Thiago Silva not only boasts a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, but also heavy hands and a willingness to stand and trade. The Brazilian mean-mugger recently returned to the cage after a year long layoff caused by a back injury. In his return fight, he absolutely dominated an aggressive Brandon Vera, leaving his nose badly broken and bringing his UFC career to an end. He has split his last four fights, balancing a knockout loss to Lyoto Machida and a decision defeat to Rashad Evans with a knockout win over Keith Jardine and the decision over Vera.
UFC 130 has not yet been announced by the UFC, but is tentatively planned to take place on May 28, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
