Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic Vs. Brendan Schaub On Tap For UFC 128 is reporting that The Ultimate Fighter season ten contestant Brendan Schaub and 2006 PRIDE FC Open-Weight Grand Prix winner Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic will be squaring off this March.

The news squashes earlier reports that Schaub would be facing off against Dutch tall man Stefan Struve.

A student under renowned trainer Greg Jackson, Schaub has shown marked improvement in his game since suffering a knockout loss at the hands of Roy “Big Country” Nelson in the TUF 10 Finale last year. He has gone on from that fight to knock out Chase Gormley and Chris Tuchscherer as well as earn an impressive unanimous decision over Gabriel Gonzaga. “The Hybrid” was earlier rumored to face former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir as well as Struve, but the former pro footballer will now apparently have his stand up tested against “Cro Cop.”

Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic has given no indication that he is currently able to compete at the same level that he did during his tenure in the PRIDE Fighting Championships, where he was one of the promotion’s most feared fighters. His career has gone up and down since signing with the UFC in 2007. He has split his last four fights in the promotion, sandwiching wins over Anthony Perosh and Pat Barry with stoppage losses to Junior dos Santos and Frank Mir. “Cro Cop” and Mir were heavily criticized for their September bout, which featured almost no offense until the closing round, when Mir landed the fight-ending knee.

Schaub and Filipovic are expected to square off at UFC 128, which is tentatively scheduled for March 19th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
