MMAMania.com is reporting that an earlier rumored bout between former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir and former pro footballer Brendan Schaub could be called off and substituted with a bout between Schaub and Dutch tall man Stefan Struve.
A finalist on the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter, Brendan Schaub showed real talent on his way to the finals match up against Roy “Big Country” Nelson. Though he was knocked out in that bout, “The Hybrid” has gone on to rack up three wins in a row in the UFC, each more impressive than the last. Though he took out Chase Gormley and Chris Tuchscherer by first round TKO, his decision win over Gabriel Gonzaga is likely his most impressive, as it marked the stiffest competition the 27-year old had yet faced. The Greg Jackson-trained fighter holds a professional record of 7-1.
Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve has been proving himself to be one of the most promising contenders in the heavyweight division, holding a UFC record of 5-2 with his only losses coming against Roy Nelson and current number one contender Junior dos Santos. He is currently on a two-fight winning streak following the TKO loss to Nelson, having defeated Christian Morecraft and Sean McCorkle within the distance. The 6’11” 22-year old Dutch fighter owns a professional record of 21-4.
UFC on Versus 3 will air on March 3, 2011 and is expected to feature a bout between Martin Kampmann and Diego Sanchez as well as one between Mark Munoz and CB Dollaway.
