Brazilian heavyweight slugger Junior “Cigano” dos Santos is currently the next fighter on deck to challenge for the UFC heavyweight crown. He will have in front of him the tall order of defeating newly crowned champion Cain Velasquez, who looked unstoppable en route to a first round TKO win over former Goliath-sized champion Brock Lesnar.
Despite the overwhelming nature of the challenge in front of him, the 12-1 Black House team member is confident in his skills and preparation and truly believes that he will be joining Jose Aldo, Anderson Silva and Mauricio Rua as a Brazilian UFC champion.
dos Santos recently spoke with Portal do Vale Tudo (translated by Fighters Only) about the upcoming bout, expressing his nervousness that the fight has yet to receive a date and pledging to bring the belt to Brazil
“I’ve been focusing [on] boxing, jiu-jitsu without forgetting takedown defense and also training takedown attacks. If the chance comes up I can put him down as well,” dos Santos asserted. “The things are getting along well. I’m just anxious to know when this [fight] is going to be.
“The belt is coming to Brazil. I’ve got all the conditions to become the fourth Brazilian champion currently.”
“Cigano” most recently appeared in action this past August against Roy “Big Country” Nelson, whom he dominated over three rounds to earn a unanimous decision, the first time on of his bouts has gone the distance.
