Veteran of both the PRIDE FC and UFC mixed martial arts promotions, Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira has been out of action since suffering a TKO loss to current UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 110 in February of this year.
Nogueira was then forced out of a planned bout with Frank Mir with a knee injury and has since undergone both knee surgery and surgery on both of his hips. The Nogueira-Mir bout was scheduled for UFC 119 this September, “Big Nog” was replaced by Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic.
Having undergone his surgery this past August, Nogueira was expected to make his return sometime around the beginning of the year. Instead, according to a conversation Nogueira’s boxing coach Luiz Dorea had recently with Brazilian MMA news source Mano a Mano (props to Fighters Only for the find), it’s looking more like Nogueira will wait until the UFC’s planned return to Brazil, which will happen in August of next year.
“Hopefully he will be back in UFC Brazil in August next year. If it is against Mirko ‘CroCop’, it’ll be even better,” Dorea said.
How do you think Nogueira will fare after over a year out of the cage? Would you like to see him in the cage against “Cro Cop” or another heavyweight? Sound off in the comments section.
