MMAJunkie.com has confirmed that a bantamweight match up between Takeya Mizugaki and Francisco Rivera is currently in the works for the UFC’s third trip onto the Versus Network.
Japanese 135-pound fighter Takeya Mizugaki has split his last six fights, balancing losses to Miguel Torres, Scott Jorgensen, and Urijah Faber with victories over Masahiro Oishi, Jeff Curran and Rani Yahya. Mizugaki is best known for his memorable scrap with Torres, which saw him take Torres to deeper water than any previous opponent during his WEC title reign. The Shooting Gym Hakkei product fights out of Miura, Kanagawa, Japan and holds a professional record of 13-5-2 including four wins by TKO, one by submission, and eight by decision. He last appeared in action against Faber, in a fight he lost by first round submission.
Francisco “Cisco” Rivera made his WEC debut at WEC 52: Faber vs. Mizugaki this past November, where he lost for the first time in his career to Erik Koch via first round TKO. Fighting out of Buena Park, California, Rivera holds a professional record of 5-1. He has earned three of his wins via TKO or KO and two via decision. Rivera will be dropping to bantamweight from featherweight for the first time in his career.
UFC on Versus 3 has yet to be officially announced, but is expected to go down on March 3rd in Louisville, Kentucky, possibly at either Freedom Hall or the KFC Yum! Center.
