The only man to have defeated current UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, Gray Maynard, recently earned a shot at Edgar’s belt and is coming to take what he believes should belong to him.
“I’ve asked for the top guys, I’ve got ’em, and I’ve gone through ’em,” Maynard said. “All the top guys. And again, I don’t see anybody else going through these guys in a row, like I am.”
“The Bully” is undefeated as a pro, with decision wins over Dennis Siver, Edgar, Rich Clementi, Jim Miller, Roger Huerta, Nate Diaz and Kenny Florian, establishing him as one of the premier UFC lightweights. Though Maynard is pleased with his current progress, he realizes that his most important goal has yet to be reached.
“It finally hit me that I got a chance at the title after I beat Kenny Florian. Of course I was happy, but you’ve got to understand that this isn’t everything,” he said. “I gotta get the belt, but I’m gonna do that and I’m gonna hold on to it.”
Though Maynard is the one with a win over Edgar, he believes that he is the one fighting for vengeance, as he sees Edgar as holding the position that is rightfully his.
“It’s my revenge now. He’s talking about revenge, I’m the one that’s getting revenge,” said Maynard. “He has everything that I should have, that I want. I just gotta go get it now.”
UFC 125: Resolution is going down this January 1st at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
