MMAJunkie.com is reporting that UFC welterweights Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann will likely be squaring off in the main event of the UFC’s third foray onto the Versus Network, this March 3rd at an undisclosed location.
Sanchez is enjoying a return to form after putting on a vintage performance against Paulo Thiago in his second bout since returning to welterweight at UFC 114 this past May. That win snapped a two-fight losing streak that saw Sanchez dominated by BJ Penn in a lightweight title fight and shut down by John Hathaway in his return bout at 170-pounds. “The Nightmare” has returned to training with MMA guru Greg Jackson, under whom he started his career. Sanchez holds a 22-4 overall record and a record of 11-4 inside the UFC.
Martin Kampmann’s last Octagon appearance did not go his way, as he was defeated by Jake Shields via narrow split decision. The loss was an upsetting one and ended Kampmann’s two-fight winning streak which included victories over Jacob Volkmann and Paulo Thiago. The Dutch striker will be looking to erase the bad taste left in his mouth from the Shields fight by scoring a big win over Sanchez. He is 8-3 in the UFC and 17-4 overall.
