As noted earlier this week, top UFC lightweight Kenny “Ken-Flo” Florian was forced to withdraw from his upcoming main event bout against Evan Dunham at UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 on January 22, 2011. According to a statement on Florian’s official website, the former top lightweight contender suffered a knee injury while training.
Melvin Guillard was pulled from his preliminary bout against Yves Edwards to face Dunham in the main event. The UFC wasted no time in finding a replacement for Edwards, as MMAJunkie.com is reporting that Cody McKenzie will fill in for Guillard to face Edwards.
McKenzie, fresh off of his stint on the most recent season of The Ultimate Fighter, defeated fellow castmate Aaron Wilkinson with his trademark guillotine choke this past Saturday at the show’s finale.
Meanwhile, the veteran Edwards is hoping to make it two in a row since he returned to the organization with a victory over John Gunderson at UFC Fight Night: Marquardt vs. Palhares this past September.
UFC: Fight for the Troops 2 is taking place at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, and will be the third event that the UFC has held on a military base as a benefit for the troops.
